Educated in China and UK, he joined Department of Physics, National University of Singapore as Lecturer, Senior Lecturer, Associate Professor, and Professor since 1991. As a visiting scholar, he was also invited to visit the Department of Physics, University of Tokyo, Tokyo, Japan; Department of Physics, Applied Physics, and Astronomy, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Troy, New York, USA; and CREOL, University of Central Florida, Orlando, Florida, USA.

Research Areas:

Ultrafast photo dynamics, multi-photon absorption and light-intensity-dependent refraction in novel materials which have potentials for lasers, nonlinear optics, photo detection, and solar cells.

Research Interest:

His pioneering works are well recognized of optical limiting with metal clusters and carbon nanotubes. And his recent works in multi-photon absorption in semiconductors and nano materials (such as quantum dots, nano wires, graphene, etc.) were also well cited. He has published more than 200 papers in scientific journals listed with the h-index of 42. He is an Associate Editor for Optical Materials Express published by the Optical Society of America.
