Biography:

Giorgia Pastorin received her Ph.D. in Medicinal Chemistry in 2004 (Italy) and she then specialized on Drug Delivery through the use of functionalized nanomaterials for several biomedical applications. Currently she works as Associate Professor in the Department of Pharmacy, NUS, and she is responsible for the Bio-lab in NanoCore.

 

She has published more than 70 research papers and reviews in internationally recognized journals, including Nature Nanotechnology, PNAS, Nano Letters, Angewandte Chimie Int. Ed. etc.

Nano-bio-technologies:

  • Targeted drug delivery, through strategic functionalizations of nanodevices.
  • Transdermal vaccine delivery through aligned nano-needles systems.
  • Toxicological evaluation of drug delivery systems for biomedical applications.
  • Lab-on-a-chip devices for selective detection of rare circulating tumor cells (started recently).

 

Medicinal Chemistry:

  • Synthesis, characterization and quantitative structure-activity relationship (QSAR) studies of potent antagonists towards different adenosine receptors’ subtypes.
  • Implication of adenosine receptors in Parkinson’s disease.
  • Molecular modeling studies to investigate ligand-receptor interactions.
