Job
Description
|
Research positions are available for a project on the
Mechanical Characterization and Modeling of Nanomaterials.
The purpose of the research is to develop capabilities and
techniques to perform nanomechanical testing of
nanostructures and nanomaterials including nanotubes,
nanorods and nanowires. Computations using atomistic and
molecular dynamics simulation will also be performed and
results compared with that of experiments. It is hoped that
the results obtained will be useful in the design and
analysis of materials and structures used in NEMS/MEMS so as
to ensure their integrity and functionality.
|
Requirements
|
The
candidate should possess a PhD from a reputable University
and have strong expertise and interests in one or more of
these areas: synthesis of nanomaterials and mechanical
characterization. Candidates with background in materials
(especially nanomaterials) and mechanics are preferred.
The appointment can commence immediately. Gross monthly
salary will commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Leave and medical benefits will be provided. Candidates of
all nationalities will be considered for this position.

A two-years, renewable
contract under Prof. Andrew T S Wee at the Surface Science
Lab of Physics Department. Successful candidates will join a
recently funded multidisciplinary research program of
“Graphene related materials and devices”, which totally
supports more than 18 postdoc fellows in 5 years. The
fellows will focus on: (i) physical methods to produce high
quality graphene on different substrates, such as on metals,
semiconductors or oxides; or (ii) surface modification and
characterization of graphene.
The
Surface Science Laboratory is one of the major research
laboratories in NUS with numerous international journal
publications, patents and industrial collaboration. The
laboratory houses a total of four ultrahigh vacuum (UHV)
surface science systems, including Omicron LT-STM (5K or
77K) with LEED and organic MBE chamber, VT-STM with LEED and
XPS, VG-ESCA lab with UPS and XPS, and SIMS (Cameca IMS 6f),
along with an array of thin film growth systems, and other
characterization equipments. In addition, we operate a
synchrotron beamline and end-station at the
Singapore Synchrotron Light Source (SSLS).

Requirements
|
- PhD in
Physics or a related discipline from a renowned University
- Research experience: surface modification of thin films
via chemical or physical
methods, or working at a synchrotron end station with x-ray spectroscopic
techniques such as PES, XAS, NEXAFS will be an added advantage;
- Good experimental skills, particularly with vacuum
equipment and electronics, or
surface modification using various chemical or physical schemes;
- A good track record of own research, preferably related to
graphene,
nanoscience and nanotechnology, thin films, solid state physics,
materials
science, and related fields
- Good planning, organizational, interpersonal and
communication skills
- Meticulous, resourceful, independent, service-oriented and
multi-tasking
- Excellent knowledge of English
- Good computer literacy, software programming skills an
added advantage
